In 2005, Compton's homicide rate increased by more than 70% from 2004, with 72 murders committed, all within a tiny 8 square mile area. That's more than one homicide committed per week. In 2006 alone, there have been 16 homicides reported, again more than one being committed a week.

When considering working with rape cases where a 16 year old girl was found with at least six different guys' seminal fluids within her or cases where a mother put her 3 month old baby in the washing machine and then set the house on fire, hardcore gang homicides suddenly seem a bit easier to swallow.
