"Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. When I saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking." - Ezekiel 1:28

"If you wait for a man to give you a seat, you'll never have one! If they don't give you a seat at the table, bring in a folding chair." - Shirley Chisholm.

"It was then I realized it was all too perfect. Here in this fisherman 's camp, I had found the magazine and the ad. I looked over at the old sycamore log. There I had asked God to help me get two hound pups. There were the pups, rolling and playing in the warm sand. I thought of the old K. C. Baking Powder can, and the fishermen. How freely they had given their nickels and dimes.

I looked up again to the names carved in the tree. Yes, it was all there like a large puzzle. Piece by piece, each fit perfectly until the puzzle was complete. It could not have happened without the help of an unseen power." – Where the Red Fern Grows.

"Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around." - Leo Buscaglia.

"Nothing worth doing is completed in our lifetime;
Therefore, we are saved by hope.

Nothing true or beautiful or good makes complete sense in any immediate context of history;
Therefore, we are saved by faith.

Nothing we do, however virtuous, can be accomplished alone;
Therefore, we are saved by love.

No virtuous act is quite as virtuous from the standpoint of our friend or foe as from our own;
Therefore, we are saved by the final form of love which is forgiveness."

- Reinhold Niebuhr.

"Let me ask you something. If someone prays for patience, you think God gives them patience? Or does he give them the opportunity to be patient? If he prayed for courage, does God give him courage, or does he give him opportunities to be courageous? If someone prayed for the family to be closer, do you think God zaps them with warm fuzzy feelings, or does he give them opportunities to love each other?" -Evan Almighty.

An opportunity has presented itself and I just can't seem to shake the feeling that I can't let this one go.

Friday night at 신촌.

Carnival games and the winnings: Dae Ho, flexible 태권도 men, paw pillows, pig keychains, hanging fuzzy monkeys, back-scratchers, and Astro Boy! Most likely to games. "Supplies!" Hotdog 꼬치. Simon's punishment. Volleyball in the park. Fred spiking the ball into Sharon's face. Sus NRB. Brian falling asleep again. Uncle Yulib and Simon serenading one another. My first pseudo-찜질방 experience. An immobile Fred.

Sunday night.

Baskin Robbins. Yulib's observant behavior. BK Jr. Whoppers. Hitting myself in the head with the volleyball. 63 빌딩. Delicious imitation McFlurries. The wall of mirrors and taking multiple pictures. The prettiest ugliest picture. The Thrill Deck. Cranky Yulib. Yulib the pyromaniac. Sliding ass chairs. Beautiful sights, albeit a little crowded. Dizzying elevators.

동대문. Waffles and ice cream 소원 fulfilled. Watermelon! The pursuit of jokeballs. The van taxi that cost 50,000 won for approximately 6 minutes of driving. Watching the price increase with a literal blink of the eye. Excitement turned to disbelief and incredulity. Boyz II Men and Whitney Houston from the 80's. Sharon's frantic grabbing of candy to "compensate."

남대문. Jokeballs have actual toes and in Korea, do not come in nice uniform thin slices. Yulib's delirium and grease encrusted lips. He is also a 순대 purist. 2 ice-cold 칠성사이다. Jokeballs' hand gesture.

"JOKEBALLS 4 LIFE!!! - Yulib Kang."

Beautiful summer nights make me giddy for 수박 parties and fireworks.

Just finished re-reading one of my all-time favorite books, The Little Prince.

"Go and look again at the roses. You will understand now that yours is unique in all the world. Then come back to say goodbye to me, and I will make you a present of a secret."

The little prince went away, to look again at the roses.

"You are not at all like my rose," he said. "As yet you are nothing. No one has tamed you, and you have tamed no one. You are like my fox when I first knew him. He was only a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes. But I have made him my friend, and now he is unique in all the world."

And the roses were very much embarassed.

"You are beautiful, but you are empty," he went on. "One could not die for you. To be sure, an ordinary passerby would think that my rose looked just like you- the rose that belongs to me. But in herself alone she is more important than all the hundreds of you other roses: becuase it is she that I have watered; because it is she that I have put under the glass globe; because it is she that I have sheltered behind the screen; because it is for her that I have killed the caterpillars (except the two or three that we saved to become butterflies); because it is she that I have listened to, when she grumbled, or boasted, or even sometimes when she said nothing. Because she is my rose."

And he went back to meet the fox.

"Goodbye," he said.
"Goodbye," said the fox. "And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye."
"What is essential is invisible to the eye," the little prince repeated, so that he would be sure to remember.

"It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important."
"It is the time I have wasted for my rose-" said the little prince, so that he would be sure to remember.

"Men have forgotten this truth," said the fox. "But you must not forget it. You became responsible, forever, for what you have tamed. You are responsible for your rose..."
"I am responsible for my rose," the little prince repeated, so that he would be sure to remember.

I borrowed Garfield from one of my students in my Smart class. Who knew Garfield was so funny? The class was laughing at me cuz I was cracking up by myself.

Remember the days when things used to be so simple?

에버랜드 [06/06/2007]

On Wednesday, Fred, Sharon, and I went to Everland, because Lotte World is temporarily closed and because my freakin kids have been talking about it for so much. I was fully equipped with a list of recommended rides from them and ready to have some fun. The day was pretty damn great, partly because I made an effort to not think about things that have been weighing on my mind and mostly because of Fred and Sharon. The weather was great, even though I got burned in the exact same spot from when I went to SD before, the food was delicious, and the kids were unbelievably adorable. Seeing all the babies run around made me think of the KCPC babies and Heidi. "Everyday is a holiday at Everland!"

Highlights:
-Word of the day: jolly.
-Mullet baby.
-The nauseatingly sweet and buttery smell of popcorn.
-Sweet banana pillows.
-Free pills. 골통 vs. 두통.
-김밥 도시락.
-Splash protection guards on the water rides.
-Baboon butt boils and blisters. Polar bears. Orangutans. Monkey Valley.
-The much anticipated Amazon Express.
-4,000원 coconuts.
-수박와 참외.
-Apple butter, soul food, mustard vs. ketchup.
-Magic Mountain, Knott's, and Disneyland.
-White people in the band, the parade, and the wedding photos.
-The Rose Garden.
-가위바위보 and water fountains.
-Babies, babies, babies.
-2 counts of 8.
-The Boxcar Children. The number 4.
-Rides the second time around.
-Eagle Fortress 기념사진 with the strange man.
-Consuming 85% of the park's concession food: slushies, coconut milk, ice cream, churros, dipppin' dots, pizza rolls, cream cheese bagels, buttered corn, cheese potato wedges, chili potato wedges, and hotdogs.
-Holla at a playa.

Fred's Day of Rest

A message to not be lukewarm, but rather refreshing or healing to those around us.

The 우연한 만남 with Sarah Choi that led us to volunteer at the Hillsong concert.

The most disgusting 냉면 and 생딸기 juice ever.

여의도공원: being the first ones there, slushies, and unfulfilled desires to hit a volleyball.

Celebrity sighting: 주지훈 from 궁 or 신동욱 from 슬픔이여 안녕. Either way, he was extremely tall and skinny.

Apple sherbert and green Frisbee throwing.

Light exemplified with cell phones.

Hillsong - Mighty to Save.

To paraphrase Darlene Zschech: “Not one of you is here tonight by chance. It is by His perfect plan that each one of you is gathered here today.”

You are the Way the Truth and the Life.
We live by faith and not by sight for You.
We're living all for You.

Hillsong - One Way.

edit: I finally realized why I was there with Fred that day. God is seriously amazing.
